Hooray ! Hooray ! Grouper season starts today. Bottom fishing should be great in Islamorada and May charter fishing is always good for Mahi Mahi..

First May trip was a birthday trip and we caught some nice yellowatil snappers. Then we went jigging and got a bunch of jacks.

We did our first mahi trip and did ok. Caught about a dozen and some nice sized ones in the mix.

Grouper fishing is picjing up. Got some nice black grouper 2 days in a row plus 3 more keepers. Another trip broght 3 keeper grouper, better than minimum size and a bunch of snapper.

5-8 Tried our luck for mahi today. We got a few but it was hard work. Sometimes that’s the only way to do it.

Stayed on the reefs and found a nice African Pompano. Along with it came a few groupers and a bunch of yellowtail snapper.

5-11 Found the dolphin (mahi) today but they didn’t want to eat . Worked hard on them and ended up with a decent catch. The water is heating up and that should improve the bite.

5-15 Took the Millers out today to look for the mahi. Cathy hooked up our first slammer of the season. It was a great fight . The fish was 65 inches long and weighed 41 1/2 lbs. A little skinny but a great catch. we got an nice dolphin catch besides

Nick and Jamie on the 19th ended up with some smoker king mackerel.

Jack got a nice African Pompano on the 21st along with some good king mackerel action. It was a really good day with a good mix of fish. We trolled up some small blackfin tuna and then went deep dropping for tile fish.

Caught and released a couple of nice sandbar sharks on our trip today.

We went offshore on the 24th. It was rough but we had a great group who stuck with it. We had a decent catch of mahi.

Tom and friends fished a couple of days at the end of the month. We got 49 mahi in 2 days and ended up with a summer surorise sailfish.
